As the main source of employment in Africa, agriculture is paradoxically the sector where the bulk of vulnerable employment is concentrated. How then to correct this disabling singularity when we know that the increase of the workforce in 2018 will generate a million more unemployed for the only region of sub-Saharan Africa?
Behind the speeches and promises have been emerging for decades less and less reassuring realities about the employment situation in the world. Last year alone, nearly 1.4 billion workers were in vulnerable jobs, while in developing countries, vulnerable employment affects three out of four workers. Worse, according to the International Labor Organization (ILO), in the coming years, the number of workers living in extreme poverty is expected to exceed 114 million people.
