Publication : "Women’s land rights in Africa"

« Overall, we find that land rights (including those of groups such as women, migrants, and pastoralists) are well recognized in general terms by relevant laws, partly as a result of a series of legal and regulatory reforms by many African countries in the late 20th century. Customary practice, however, often discriminates against women by allowing them to access land only through spouses or men in their lineage. In many countries strong gender bias in land access persists. »
