BOAD host a West African workshop for climate-smart agriculture promotion

(Ecofin Agency) - On the 9th and 10th of January, BOAD is hosting a sub-regional workshop in Lomé to promote climate-smart agriculture.

National authorities and environmental assessment agencies from five West African countries, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Niger and Togo, are taking part in the work.

Climate change and variability is a threat to the economy and stability of West African countries, and especially to farmers in the region who will see their production drop significantly due to rising temperatures, the variability of precipitation and increased frequency of extreme events.

To prevent this, BOAD, the Regional Agency for Agriculture and Food of ECOWAS and the WAEMU Commission, head this meeting which aims to provide the subregion with a Fund to reduce vulnerability to risks. farmers and pastoralists; provide technical assistance to producer groups for the implementation of subprojects with proven cost-effectiveness; and carry out water control and pasture management works.

The Lomé workshop will be used to set up this fund with the mobilization of 7 billion FCFA.
